Ship, 2016

An installation imagined and used as a queer stage for performance and film.

The stage incorporated various paraphernalia, drawings and texts relating to the beds I had lived in and my personal history around relationships, online dating, gender and penetration. These adorned the installation to form a nostalgic ship ready to sail into a possible future.

Both the stage and film played with the notion of Baird stemming from the word 'bard' - a poet, composer or singer of heroic verse. Durational actions with a smoke machine released clouds into the gallery space, the floor as sea, leading to a text about recent experiences in travel and love - and a recital of the work of Spanish poet Federico GarcĂa Lorca.
